We flew out from Gatwick on an Astraeus Boeing 737-700 (type photo). Surprisingly comfortable for such a small aircraft, the nearly 6 hour flight passed by very quickly, despite the absence of any in-flight entertainment (I got through the first half Fingerprints of the Gods, though I gave up reading it in disgust), and we touched down in Aswan International Airpor just after sunset.

From the airport we boarded a coach and transferred to the MS Prince Abbas on Lake Nasser, where we met our guide for the next week, Walid.
