Friday morning was a three hour coach journey from Abu Simbel to Aswan in a bizarre, very widely spaced escorted convoy. In Aswan we paid a visit to the Hisham Gumaa perfumery, which deals almost entirely with essential oils, before heading to the airport to take up the spare seats on a Spanair Airbus A321 (EC-HQZ) which was stopping in Cairo before taking its rather noisy Spanish contingent on to Barcelona.

By the time we were on the plane, I had become aware that I had a touch of "Pharaohs' revenge", which luckily thanks to my bionic plumbing was little more than a minor nuisance. What I didn't know is that pretty much the whole tour party (17 out of 19, by the end of week two, I think) were also suffering. By the time we touched down at Cairo International I think most people couldn't wait to get to our home for the next few days, the Mena House Oberoi.
