Monday was another day of travelling, this time from Cairo to Luxor. Our flight was "delayed" for a few hours, which given our Spanair experience we took to mean that they couldn't find a plane with enough spare seats. Instead we found ourselves being treated to lunch at the Heliopolis Mœvenpick, which turned out to be a very nice salad followed by chicken and chips! I wolfed the lot down - almost unheared-of when dining out!

VJV must've decided to charter a plane specifically, because in the afternoon we boarded a Petroleum Air Services Dash 8 Q300 (SU-CBF). Everyone scoffed at the idea of a propellor-driven aircraft (although I was quite looking forward to it), but after the short hour-long flight everyone agreed it had been as quiet and comfortable as any jet, and it was great for us to travel together as a single group. It's also not often you get to see the smoke off the tyres when landing, but I had a great view of it as we touched down in Luxor.

From there it was another coach journey from Luxor to Esna, to board the MS Serenade, our floating hotel for the next week, and meet our new tour guide, Dalal. (Normally the tour would start at Luxor, but we went during the period whilst the Esna lock was closed.)
